Crusoe Launches $29B Goodnight Campus in Claude, Mirroring OpenAI’s Stargate

Just east of Amarillo in Armstrong County, TX, Crusoe Energy has quietly locked in approvals and already started construction on a new hyperscale campus at 10001 Lima Rd, Claude, TX 79019. While early state filings only flagged two 485k-sf data center shells, recent tax abatement agreements reveal a much larger play: a two-phase, seven-building campus with more than 1 GW of planned capacity and up to $29B in capital investment. The site, now referred to as the Goodnight Campus, marks one of the most ambitious private infrastructure projects in the Texas region.
Strategically positioned within SPP grid territory, the campus will leverage access to affordable power and renewable sources, including a potential supply agreement with Serena’s 265.5 MW Goodnight Wind Farm. With Phase 1 requiring COD by 2027 and Phase 2 extending the tax abatement window well into the 2030s, Crusoe is positioning itself to scale faster than most hyperscale peers. For a county of fewer than 2,000 residents, the development represents a transformative economic anchor while signaling to global investors that Crusoe has established a repeatable, gigawatt-scale blueprint for AI infrastructure.

Key Highlights:
1. A structural twin to Abilene’s “Stargate” for OpenAI
The filings mirror Crusoe’s Abilene campus, which it has been confirmed to be tied to OpenAI’s Project Stargate. The Claude blueprint uses the same ~490k-sf building module and identical $292M per-shell spend. Side-by-side satellite imagery shows the same cruciform pad cuts and MEP yard allocations.
2. Scale puts Goodnight Campus among the top 5 U.S. AI campuses
At full build, Goodnight Campus = 7 buildings / 3.4M sq ft / ~1,030 MW, rivaling hyperscale projects in Indiana, Virginia, Louisiana, and North Texas. For context, this is larger than the majority of Meta or Google single-site campuses.
3. Powering the Claude Campus
Project filings indicate that Crusoe’s Claude campus will be powered in part by energy purchased from Serena’s Goodnight Wind Farm, located in Armstrong County, the very same region as Claude. According to EIA Goodnight 1 has an installed capacity of 265.5 MW, and shares the same grid territory as Claude, making it a likely off-taker for clean renewables linked via nearby substation and transmission lines.
The Capital Markets Angle: Why a $10 B Valuation Is Justified
Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that Crusoe plans to raise new funding at a valuation near $10 billion. This marks a dramatic leap from its $2.8 billion valuation following its 2024 Series D round.
